Abstract:
Your 20s are often described as a time of exploration, growth, and opportunity — a period for launching careers, building relationships, and chasing dreams. But for young people diagnosed with cancer, life comes to an abrupt halt. Instead of planning for the future, they are thrust into a world of hospital visits, treatments, and uncertainty.
This seminar will bring the voices of local Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) cancer survivors (aged 15–39), sharing their powerful stories of resilience and hope. Through these authentic conversations, we’ll explore how cancer impacts every facet of a young person’s life — physically, emotionally, and socially. We’ll also delve into the challenges of navigating a healthcare system that often fails to fully address their unique needs, and discuss how our healthcare profession students can provide better support for their peers in adversity, and for young patients.
