Abstract:
The acclaimed documentary Four Trails tells the inspiring story of Hong Kong’s most formidable ultra marathon—the Four Trails Ultra Challenge—covering 298 km of challenging terrain and elevation. Join race participants Professor William Hayward and Mr Stone Tsang for an engaging discussion that examines the links between endurance running, psychology, and medicine. The conversation will highlight valuable lessons on resilience, coping strategies, and human endurance, exploring how extreme sports can inform mental toughness and well-being in healthcare professionals and patients alike.

Speakers:
Prof William Hayward
Chair Professor of Psychology & Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences
Lingnan University

Will Hayward is Chair Professor of Psychology and Dean of Social Sciences at Lingnan University. He is an experienced runner, having completed about 50 ultramarathons (45km or longer), and is a 2-time survivor of the Hong Kong Four Trails Ultra Challenge. His longest ever run was 395km in 59 hours at Big’s Backyard Ultra in Bell Buckle, Tennessee, USA.

Mr Tsang Siu Keung (Stone)
Elite Trail Runner & Paramedic

An elite trail runner who has been running and racing around the world since 2022 and achieving remarkerable results. He still was the first HK Chinese to win Action Asia Challenge, and ranked 8th & 10th overall in the year-end standings of the Ultra Trail World Tour in 2014 and 2015. Stone is the founder of the “Little Stone Charity Foundation” to promote trail conservation, public education, and trail running.

Stone has been working as a Paramedic in the Hong Kong Fire Service Department for 25 years to treat casualties and save lives.
