Illness: the cry for flesh
Professor Jane Macnaughton of Durham University visited us in 2017. She introduced this excellent book, authored by her project collaborator to us.
Professor Havi Carel is a philosopher of medicine specialised in phenomenology of illness. Argued in this little book (Routledge, 2013), she notes that it should be essential reading for medical and nursing students — not to mention doctors and all those working in health-care. It presents a uniquely authentic account of the lived experience of illness. It is a philosophical and insightful book about what it is to be human and how to live. Anbody who cares about who they are and how they live ought to read it.
