You are warmly invited to a special humanitarian talk featuring Dr Au Yiu-Kai, a distinguished HKUMed alumnus and recipient of the Hong Kong Humanity Award, who will share powerful reflections from his 23 years of overseas humanitarian service, including his recent medical mission in Gaza.

Since 2002, Dr Au has attended 29 overseas humanitarian missions with the International Committee of the Red Cross and Médecins Sans Frontières, serving in regions including Gaza, Iraq, Yemen, Ukraine, and 11 declared war zones.

Following Dr. Au’s sharing, a discussion session will delve into broader themes surrounding humanitarian medicine. Through this dialogue, participants will gain deeper insight into the clinical, ethical, and emotional complexities of delivering care in crisis settings.

  • Dr Au Yiu Kai (HKU MBBS 1983), retired consultant in surgery in Kwong Wah Hospital, HKHA since 2019, started first overseas humanitarian mission with International Committee of Red Cross in 2002, joined Médecins Sans Frontières in 2005, attended total 29 overseas missions in last 23 years, worked in countries including Kenya, Thailand, Liberia, Indonesia, South Sudan, China, Yemen, Haiti, Nigeria, Pakistan, Iraq, Ukraine and Gaza. 11 missions in declared war zones.
