Abstract:
Tina and Rog Thomas never planned to start a family, adopt a child, or raise one with special needs. Yet an unexpected meeting with Mui became a family – and a fierce refusal to let illness, prejudice or society’s discomfort define a child’s worth.

Join us to explore how adverse childhood experiences can shape health and behaviour, and to reflect on courage, belonging and our common humanity.

Speakers:
Tina Thomas is Anglo-German. She has diplomas in Child Psychology, Psychotherapy and Special Educational Needs. Tina faced the psychological and physiological impact of intergenerational trauma and adverse childhood experiences: abandonment, death, domestic violence, mental health abuse, adoption issues and suicide.

Mui Thomas is Hong Kong British. Born with a rare skin disease (Harlequin Ichthyosis), she faced adverse childhood experiences: abandoned at birth, placement in a home for the mentally handicapped because of her appearance. She has ADHD and high functioning autism. Cyberbullies drove Mui to the edge of oblivion. She is part of the first generation of survivors with H.I. and an award-winning sportsperson.

Rog Thomas is British. He has a degree in Economics and diploma in Child Psychology. He is a published author and creative writing tutor.
