Calling critical medical humanities researchers!

We are searching for one or multiple Assistant / Associate Professors (tenure-track) in critical medical humanities to join an energetic and expanding team at the Medical Ethics and Humanities Unit (MEHU), School of Clinical Medicine, LKS Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong.

Situated in The School of Clinical Medicine, MEHU is at the vibrant intersection of medicine, the humanities, and medical ethics. This research and teaching opportunity is open to all humanities and social science researchers dedicated to enhancing the real-world relevance of critical medical humanities today, including those with backgrounds in anthropology, history, philosophy, sociology, cultural studies, and related disciplines, including those with clinical experience and medical education backgrounds. MEHU’s professoriate staff primarily teach MBBS medical students across our various themes.

Candidates should have a strong publication record in high impact venues, grants and awards, and teaching experience. They should be making important interventions in the critical medical humanities. Those with interest in researching Hong Kong, mainland China, Taiwan, East Asian contexts, and Asian contexts will be given priority, however others are encouraged to apply as well. This includes those with research interests in: health justice and inequities; clinical ethnography; moral philosophy and bioethics; history of medicine; critical disability studies; narrative medicine; cultural psychiatry; mad studies; global health humanities; feminist medical humanities; gender and sexuality; environmental and planetary health; health sociology; emotion and affective atmospheres; aging studies and gerontology; critiques of biomedicine, etc.

Interested applicants should apply online through the HKU Professoriate Recruitment scheme and provide a cover letter, curriculum vitae, research statement, teaching statement, 2 or 3 most significant research publications, and contact information for at least three references. Make sure to indicate that your application is for the Medical Ethics and Humanities Unit.
