Abstract:
Dr. He Jiankui was recently released from prison in China only to be granted a talent visa by the Government of HKSAR. The scientific community and popular media expressed dismay, and the visa was quickly withdrawn. This occurrence is an opportunity to revisit the societal, scientific, and ethical aspects of Jiankui’s affair concerning the heritable editing of the human genome.
